Southern Thread-leaf Sundew (Drosera Filiformis Tracyi)
$18.00
Drosera filiformis tracyi, also known as the Southern Thread-leaf Sundew, stands out as one of the largest North American sundews. This variant, slightly larger than the D. filiformis filiformis, with the Florida Giant Form being even more substantial, features long leaves that can reach a remarkable length of up to 18 inches. Its predominant coloration is green to yellow-green, adorned with clear to slightly orange digestive glands, and covered with numerous glistening, sticky tentacles that catch the sunlight. From a distance, it commands attention, appearing to shimmer with a silvery-green sheen, making it a prominent attraction at the nursery.
This carnivorous plant thrives in open, sunlit bog conditions and does not grow within Sphagnum Moss. Notably, it displays a higher tolerance for drier conditions compared to most sundews and competes effectively with non-carnivorous plants. It emerges later in the spring and persists throughout the summer and fall. During the dormant season, it forms a robust winter hibernaculum, which is best positioned just below the surface early in the spring for optimal growth. Drosera filiformis tracyi boasts numerous large white flowers on tall scapes, flowering between May and June and frequently yielding abundant seeds. These seeds can be sown immediately or stored for several years. This remarkable carnivorous plant adds a dramatic touch to your collection or bog garden.
When ordered, please be aware that the plants are shipped bare-root and thoughtfully wrapped in damp sphagnum moss. During its dormant phase, it will be shipped as a dormant hibernaculum. Juvenile plants may be shipped as well. For maximum visual impact, consider using multiple plants in a 6″ pot.
