Mature “Chipola River” Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia Leucophylla Chipola)
$28.00
Another rare gem, this S. Leucophylla Chipola from Calhoun Co, FL is something that’s both rare in cultivation and near extinction in the wild (at least within that county). Much like Bay County, most of Calhoun County has been either developed or farmed. A little more than a decade ago, some of the last remaining sites were roadside ditches where the Sarracenia luckily missed the herbicide and plow. Today, those well-known roadside populations are no longer in existence. In fact, you couldn’t tell Sarracenia were even there in the past!
This leucophylla clone may in fact be significant due to its ability to produce an early crop of fall pitchers. Normally, one does not see fall leucophylla pitchers until early September.
